One Piece 494 - Tragedy of Duval

*** SPOILER WARNING ***
For those of you who will curse when shown spoilers, please skip this post.
It's been a habit of mine to read online mangas for quite some time, especially since I've came back to Hong Kong. Well, all thanks to one manga, I am able to enjoy most of the newest shonen jump comics online for free. Anyway, I am quite a loyal reader of one piece, and I've been keeping track and reading the newest chapter almost every weekend. The thing is, this issue is just too hilarious! It has got me laughing for a few minutes non-stop, and of course, good things are to be shared, so I am writing this little post here to share the joke. Hope you all will understand and enjoy it, no matter whether you are an OP fan or not~!

Some background information:
Alright, for those of you who are familiar with the story of One piece, here's something to fill you all in. Luffy and the straw hat crew have gone through lots in the grand line, and have just defeated CP9 in the Enies Lobby, which is the gate way to both the Hell city and Marine's base. Anyway, after the defeat of CP9, all of the crew has a bounty (maybe except for Usspo because his bounty belonged to Sogeking). Anyway, apart from the huge raise of bounty for all (except chopper who's bounty is only 50) and Nami's sexy post, the spotlight goes onto Sanji, the crew's chef. Well, it's kind of explain so let me show you some pictures.
Sanji Sanji's Wanted poster.
The picture on Sanji's wanted poster doesn't look like him, right? It is stated in the story that the Marines were not able to obtain a picture of Sanji (because the photographer has forgotten to take off the cap of the camera) and thus, they have drawn a super ugly, super weird and super unlike-Sanji's picture of Sanji. Well, of course Sanji is furious, which even caused him to speak alienated words to Zoro when he was mocked for this poster.
Anyway, the story goes on and the crew has met and defeated Moria in Thriller Bark, and they are heading for the Fishman island. However, on the way there, they've encountered a guy called Duval, leading a gang of "Flying fish riders", and was attacked by them. Duval also says that he had a grudge on one of the crew's member, and is willing to eliminate the whole crew at all cost. Well, this person which he had a grudge on turns out to be Sanji. The reason why ... well, for that you'll have to read it for yourself =D

At the end of the day, Duval turned out to have a face of the Sanji in his wanted poster!!! Because of that, Duval had a huge grudge on Sanji as the wanted poster has caused a huge amount of trouble for Duval, especially from bounty hunters. Hilarious, isn't it? I've seriously laughed real hard on this one. Eiichiro Oda, nice going man! That's some hell of a funny tragic there!

Alright, so long for now, and many thanks to One Manga for all the comic scripts.

Haircut

A friend of mine has just called me a "slacker" because there's been quite some time since I've posted something here. Actually, I've published a post this Tuesday which is of a similar topic but I've taken it down due to unglam-ness. Alright, unglam sounds kind of ridiculous on me, but still, I look quite ridiculous there. Ok, to cut it short, I've went to cut my hair this Tuesday, and cut it real short. Near crew cut. K, lazy to type. Look at the pic and you'll know.

You won't be seeing my near bald head =P not now =D

Oh and a friend of mine from school introduced a "Singapore restaurant" today. In hong kong. Anyone interested in trying Singapore food with Hong Kong style? =D

Sticky hand

Anyone remember playing those little sticky hands which you will get form those gatchapon (扭蛋) machines? (those Japanese toy selling machines where u insert a coin and turn the leaver and a small plastic egg containing a toy drops out ... get the idea?) I've fond a few small "eggs" containing these sticky hand. Reminds me of those primary school days where people will go and buy/bring their own sticky hands and play in school, hitting people, objects, papers, tables and anything which comes in the way and not in the sight of a teacher. There are some dudes who sells them for profits too (but it's just 2 buck HKD =.=). I think the first version is a frog's tongue, and it later evolved to sticky hands, and then a lot of shapes came along, such as hammer, morning stars, human tongue etc etc etc. Pretty fun, but it gets dirty real fast and you need to get a new one cause it's sticky and dirts and dusts gets stuck onto it easily. Well's heres a picture.

Alright, time to hit the sack~!

Rain rain go away~

Been quite a long time since it last rained. Hmmm ... I have been wondering, is a rain drop really pointed on one end and circular on the other? Curious as I always am, I've took my camera, camped at the window and clicked non-stop for at least half an hour. Well, let's not talk about the photos first. The half an hour of camping at the window still reminds me of those childhood days. When ever there's rain, I would climb onto the little balcony (around one meter wide and deep, which slants in towards the window) and watch the rain falling, wind rolling and the people on the streets running for shelter. I could sit there all day looking at the rain and the wind, and at that time homework used to be a ten minute job. The only difference between my primary school life and other's is that there aren't any television set or electronic gaming gadgets such as gameboy or playstation, and I've only gotten my first computer during primary 5. So basically, there aren't anything high tech during my childhood before the invasion of a computer. Naturally, I would miss out on things such as playstation or gameboy. Oh wait, I've gotten a gameboy once, during primary 3, but I think it lasted for like 2 months before it went into the trash. Not that I've spoilt it, but I think the reason behind the death of my gameboy is that it's obstructing my studies. Man... I was only primary 3 then!

All these reminds me of another thing, and that is that little dream, little hope and little wish which I had, which is that I don't have to go to school because of heavy thunderstorm or typhoon. No such thing in Singapore, huh? No matter how heavy the rain is, how suckie the drainage systems are, there's still school. Hmm, maybe I'll explain more with the following logos taken from Hong Kong Observatory and Wiki.

Typhoon Signal 1 Stand-by (戒備)

Typhoon Signal 3 Strong winds (強風)

Typhoon Signal 8 (with various directions) Gale or storm force winds(烈風或暴風)
Typhoon Signal 9 Increasing gale or storm force winds(烈風或暴風風力增強)
Typhoon Signal 10 Hurricane (颶風)
(Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_Kong_tropical_cyclone_warning_signals)

Well, that's for typhoon. Notice how the site from wiki states that it's tropical cyclone. This also reminds me that there was a time when the typhoon signal 3 was up and I went and open the window to stick a little paper kite out (used to love playing paper kites near the window). Guess what? Poof! The window flew down! Oh the humanity... ... ... Anyway, the guy who fixed the window after the typhoon was gone (which went all the way up to signal 9...) said that it was lucky that the window still didn't came apart and that only the frame fell down because the window still is too light and it won't sustain much impact. O.o Anyway, here's the rainstorm signals.

(Taken from http://www.weather.gov.hk/ )

Well, actually there's nothing much to explain except that these means heavy rain, heavier rain and heaviest rain. The important thing is, with red and black rainstorm signals, there's no school =D. So isn't it great that there's so many storms in Hong Kong that it's like extra holidays? There are many other signals, such as hot/cold weather, and humidity level warnings. But who cares? No holidays and I won't really be bothered to read up about them. Before I forget, here's the rain drop pictures.

Doesn't these look like a pair of earrings?
Well, this certainly doesn't look pointed at the top...
Looks like ice earring... hmm, maybe I'll go and make one if I get the chance to go into a DnT workshop.
Looks pretty round to me
Drip Drip Drip

I think I don't have to explain what the raindrop looked like, right? The pictures are quite self explanatory... Hmm, time to throw away the dog poo and feed him with sweets.

I've found that some of the photos are quite pretty so I've editted some of them. Hope that you will find them interesting

Coconut craze

What is Singapore famous for? Human resource? Airport? Clean and Green city? PAP? No press freedom? Well, how about products? Kaya? Laksa? Satay? Pineapple and related products? Tin and Rubber (that's malaysia)? Durian and related products? Well, it's only now that I know that Singapore produces coconuts sweets. But seriously, I've always thought that Singapore makes only durian cakes ...

Anyway, my dad got into this habit of eating sweets, and he went and bought a lot of those mixed sweets from those stores which sells dried goods. Among the mix of sweets, there are 大白兔 (china made milk candies), some unknown brand milk candies, some unknown brand toffi/coffee candies, some unknown brand fruit candies (it says Superior sweets but what the heck is that, I don't know) and a bunch of coconut sweets. Anyway, to my surprise, the coconut sweets are manufactured in two similar cities, namely Singapore and Hong Kong. Well, those sweets which came from Singapore are in white (with red words), blue and red wrappers (with white words) where as those from Hong Kong are white with red/green words. Well, I guess I'll save the explanation to the pictures.

Singapore made coconut sweet (red wrapper) with Chinese words

English words

White version of Singapore coconut sweet

Wondered what is written on the wrapper?

the actual sweet (singapore version) ... some how it looks like a piece of feces...

The Hong Kong version of Coconut sweet

Looks more pleasing than the Singapore one if you as me.

Ok that's the pictures of the sweets I am talking about. Anyone where they are made in? From the look of the wrapper, Singapore should have started producing coconut sweets some decades ago because the words on the wrappers are still written in traditional chinese instead of simplified. Also. the picture printed on the wrapper looks like those from the 1950's - 70's. Hmm ... anyone know when did the Singaporean government switched traditional chinese to the simplified ones? Maybe we will get to know the date which this candy was made popular (if it did ever) and are the major consumer of such. Another thing about the wrapper is that the chinese translated name of Singapore is 星加坡 instead of 新加坡. Well, actually many people used the incorrect translation even in the 1990's so there's not much surprise in the misuse. Oh and the candy has the 養顔 effect? Which is ... erm ... rejuvenating? Holy ... ... ... seriously, people believe in all sorts of rubbish, don't they? I hope that these kind of slogan won't work in the current society, cause it's just way too ridiculous. One last thing. The Hong Kong made coconut sweets taste better than the Singapore made ones. Firstly, its more sugary. Moreover, there are air bubbles in the Singapore made candies, which caused an rough and uneven texture, even though both sweets (HK and SG ones) contains small coconut bits for which the texture is uneven to begin with. Lastly, there's this kind of weird taste which does belongs to neigther coconut nor sugar, and I simply don't like it. So basically I'll try not to eat any of those Singapore made coconut candies if I can, =P.

Oh and I haven't post anything regarding games yet, right? I'll find time to do so in the near future.

Dog Poo

Just went to throw away the dog poo a moment ago. Why can't dogs know how to throw away their own dung? I feel as if I am the servant and he's the master most of the times ... Not that I mind having a dog in the house, but he keep asking me for food such as sweets, chips, biscuits ....... and I always thought that dogs can only eat special food, but this mutt here some how likes to eat sweets, and for his size, he sure can eat loads of them. Well, I've learnt from somewhere that dogs have an IQ of 10 (way lower than mine =P), but they should at least come with the "auto flush" ability =/, eh? Oh well, when he was younger, he use to feed on his own feces which for which he "bomb" the whole living room floor, and later come running to you and tries to lick you ... ... ...

And that reminds me, I've got a pair of tongs for picking up the newspaper which is the pup's toilet some time back (and some bombs which have missed the target). Well, the pair of tongs are those which people use for salad bowls or buffet, and it happened to be placed in the kitchen. So if someone comes and prepares food in my kitchen, will he/she accidentally use the pair of tongs?

Singapore governance is ... dictatorial? liberal? no ... it's Simcity style!

Another post on Singapore. Well, this time, I will be touching on a particular leader, founder, father, constructor, engineer ... the all time famous/(infamous) Lee Kwan Yew (I can hear people coughing by now ... please don't throw any rotten tomato or eggs at me, thanks!). But seriously, don't you think that the way LKY governs Singapore is quite similar to playing Simcity?

To begin with, let me share something which I did (or was forced to do) a few weeks ago during one of my Making of Modern Singapore lessons. The instructor showed a video on Lee Kwan Yew (mostly referred to LKY): Success stories - Lee Kwan Yew.

Seriously, this isn't much of a film. It's more like an interview between the press and Lee, and I am glad to say that, because this documentary was filmed by a Hong Kong press (RTHK), the video is rather unbiased, and you won't only see LKY's point of view, but also others such as Tang Liang Hong, someone who have been charged (by LKY of course~!) and exiled from Singapore and is a former opposition party member (Worker's party). However, even though many portions of the film is arguable, one fact is certain, and that is that LKY simply suck in the Chinese language, perhaps it's because that he is a peranakan, but that may be one of the reason why he chose English as the official language of Singapore (together with Malay as the national language but I doubt many Singaporeans is Malay literate, of course not counting the Malays).

Alright, I will try my very best to split everything that I've got to say in two parts, mainly post war and post separation. For post war, which is the period after WWII till the separation of Singapore and Malaysia, I will briefly touch on LKY's role in the merger and separation, his stand in politics and things like that(why am I sounded as if I am writing an essay on LKY?!). As for the Independence era, well, I think that if you happened to have lived in Singapore for quite some time, I don't really have to elaborate much on this issue.

First up, post WWII period. I guess everyone knows the educational background of Lee, right? Cambridge graduate in Law with A*... geez, he was already that hostile towards his opponents (so-called) during his student days, so calculating and the sort (my perception). Anyway, he came back to Singapore, formed the People's Action Party (PAP), made used of the communist, achieved what he wanted, kicked the left wing people into the prison, and LKY rose to power (I wonder why the PRC didn't send a team of assassin to aid the communist ... oh well, maybe Mao couldn't care less about this minute island of Singapore). Anyway, there's nothing interesting to mention about during LKY's rise to power, except maybe for the part where LKY shouted cowards during one of his rallies and you see some people in the background switching off their room lights, where LKY say that they are the communist people but who really knows? Anyway, LKY became the prime minster of Singapore with ease with the merger of Malaya and Singapore (together with Sabah and Sarawak). So be it. It was always LKY's political dream and he always sees that the merger of these states the only way out for Singapore to survive without the British. LKY was obviously sick of colonial power (be it Japan or Britain), and hope that Singapore gain Independence as soon as possible at that point in time. However, little did LKY know that Singapore and Malaysia will be divorced after two short years of marriage. It is one of LKY's major failure in his political career, and the most serious one. However, shouldn't LKY see that coming? I mean, since LKY loathed foreign governance so much, why did he still seek the merger with Malaya? Aren't you still depending on Malaysia when the merger occurs? What's the difference? Well, there are already signs of displease by the Malaya government before the merger, such as the addition of Sabah and Sarawak so as to boost the population of Malays as Malaysians (well, according to some Social studies/History textbooks in Singapore). Couldn't LKY foresee that a lot of disagreements will come together with the merger? Come to think of that, isn't this a bit like Hitler's invasion on Russia even though Napoleon have already failed to do so (and obviously it's not a good idea)?

However, there seemed no end to LKY's political career. After tears rolling down and trying to prove that he himself is wrong in the merger stuff, LKY had always been at the top of Singaporean politics. One thing is for sure though, LKY planned everything with "for the good of Singapore" in mind. He managed the country like how we would have done so in Simcity. Like what LKY had said in his visit to CUHK that he wasn't there for you to judge whether he a suitable ruler of Singapore or not, nor his methods used in politics. Well, I think I should give LKY credits in this dictatorial style of governance. If not for his rule of iron fist, I believe that Singapore will not be as prosperous as it is today, especially in an early stage. Like a father catering to his son, LKY had planned each step for Singapore and set everything on track. However, come to think of that, isn't it time for Singapore to mature and walk out of this parental state? I mean, it's been 40 odd years since Independence, so shouldn't LKY step down and let the country walk the path that she wants to walk? Let's not talk about the control of media, the unjustified treatment of the opposition and the displease of the masses towards the government. But naturally, I think that LKY should really stop clinching on to the political power he owns. From prime minister to senior minister and now minister mentor (how I wish we can eat him up like a mentos...). Come on, LKY, your era is over!

The above really sums up what I have to comment on LKY for his rule in Singapore. However, there are other issues which I would like to comment on. One of which is that I find that LKY's method of doing things are quite contradictory. LKY emphasised on the importance of social and racial cohesion, and that everyone is equal and everyone speaks the same language ... ... ... you know, those brain washing and propaganda stuffs. However, in the video, LKY have also said that there are certain groups (racial ones, and whether did he clearly states that or not, I can't remember) are not performing as good as others academically and that he is only able to help them to improve like 20% and they are on their own for the rest of the stuff. Blehz ... contradictory to what he says, right? There's something even more ridiculous. LKY had the idea that intelligence is partly from nature (sorry mensa, a bit off from the society's rule), and so he urged all university graduates should marry and give birth... seriously, what the heck? So are you saying that if my parents are from the lower class and if they are school drop outs, I will be a dumb mutt who can't even write ABC? (ok, a bit extreme here, but u get my meaning) Man... the idea is just so ... idiotic.

Ok, enough of LKY. For the sake of Singapore or not, LKY has been using a "Simcity" style of governing. Be it effective or not, I still think that this kind of governing style should cease being exist. For this metter, whether LKY is a hero or a jerk, it's up to you to decide.

Hmm...having written all these, I feel that switching to the faculty of Social Science is quite a good option for me, true? At least, I feel that I have it in my blood.

Where's the end of the internet?

I've realized that I've been using the Internet far more frequently than I supposed to. Worse still, my usage of the net did not result from homework or school usages, bunt instead, I have been loitering in facebook, friendster and forums (FF&F ... hmmm nice abbreviation). Well, if you count the usage of this blog in too, then I will definitely die of Internet over dosage if there's such a cause. Just wondering, anyone knows where the end or dead end of the Internet really is? I've googled "end of the Internet" and found quite a few interesting results.

The End of the Internet - http://www.shibumi.org/eoti.htm
Dead End - http://www.noring.pp.se/
End of the Internet - http://www.tribbs.co.uk/end_of_the_internet.php
The Internet cannot be displayed END - http://www.weirdity.com/internet/eoti.html
(Many thanks to http://www.dmoz.org/Recreation/Humor/Computer/Internet/Dead-End_Pages/ for providing the links)

Found these sites quite entertaining. At the very least, these sites reflected something. There are too many Internet craze out there, and by the look of things, there's no end to all these Internet frenzy. Who really understood what the creator of the world wide web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee aimed at when creating the web? I believe that what he wished the society can gain from his work is the idea of convince, especially in terms of messaging, data transfers and information gatherings. However, is that happening now? Everyone is capable of doing research on university topics just with a type in wikipedia or Google (sad to say, that's how I've found out about Berners). The hospitality of a library is fading from existence, from a reserve of information to a mere Internet station or an air-conditioning room with tables and chairs. Sad, isn't it?

Anyway, all these reminds me of an article from Newsweek regarding online games. The articles said that the reason why people (especially the younger generation ... erm, am I considered?) are so addicted to online games is because that these virtual world provided a chance for discovery, adventure and are highly customisable. There's a sense of adventure for the player when playing such online games, especially role playing games such as the highly recommended World Of Warcraft, guild wars and etc. They allow players to go into a mythical adventure with their real life friends as they explore, battle and train in such virtual worlds. Well, I can't help but to agree with the article. It sounded very true. I have played numerous of online RPGs and each got me hooked for some time till I grew bored of it. True enough, it was these kind of curiosity and satisfaction which got most people glued to their computer and playing such RPGs non-stop. But the thing is, is this the same reason why people are so hooked to facebook and friendster and forums and such? Or perhaps this can be a reason why people are spending so much time searching the googles or even wikipedia for something that they most probably have not heard off the previous day? I guess I'll leave that for u to think about.

Hopefully, when the next semester begins, I will be able to stick to my "new semester resoultion" and cut my internet so that I won't be able to access the internet from my home (relax, you will still be able to hear from me~ so no worries). Hmmmmmmm, oh and one more thing, I haven't really been playing much online games such as Maple Story, Warcraft III, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress.......... (long list, so I'm sorry that I can't type everything here) But I'll be posting on the kind of games that I dig recently, so stick around~

Singapore: a first world country or a first class prison?

Like what I've said in my previous post (which was yesterday), I will talk about my perspective of Singapore in this post. Well, having lived in this country state for like 6 years plus, it's natural that I will quite a lot of comments regarding this country, be it good or bad. In addition to that, I am taking a module on "The making of modern Singapore", which gave me more room to do research on this matter.

Ok, firstly, I would like to talk about my so-called research results. Well, its nothing formidable. Just a few little articles which I have looked up in the Internet. I believe that everyone knows how great Singapore is in economy, education, environment, diplomatic relations, RnD..... blah blah blah, as long as the government can think of it, they will be kicked into the list of being a so-called hub. Ok, enough of all that trash talk. Here's some little abstract from a site which I think everyone will be interested in, at least, I hope.
· Press freedom. Dismally ranked 140th out of 167 countries by Reporters
without Borders,

· Executions. One of the world's highest rates (on per capita), having
hanged 400 criminals between 1990-2004).

· Sex performance. Second last out of 41 countries (2005 Durex Global
Sex Survey), which wouldn't have bothered the government had it not been for its
very low procreation).

· Emigration. Singapore has an average outflow rate of 26.11 migrants
per 1,000 citizens, the second highest in the world - next only to East Timor
(51.07), according to an unverified website.

· Courtesy. It is ranked a poor 30th out of 35 countries and now - the
Happy Planet Index of 130th out of 178 nations.
(abstract taken from website: http://www.littlespeck.com/content/lifestyle/CTrendsLifestyle-060724.htm on 16/3/2008)

Any comments? =) I don't know about you all, but I sure have tons of words to say. (Of course, its your choice to believe or agree with whatever I says but that doesn't constrains my freedom of speech =D). I won't be looking at sex performance for now cause it's not the point which I want to bring out but anyway, here's what I feel.

First of all, press freedom. I remembered that LKY once said that the media and press should be aiding the government instead of monitoring the government and telling the government what to do. Well, this could be effective if Singapore had a diverse government. But hey, most of the Singapore government is made up of PAP, which makes PAP the government of Singapore, and when LKY said that, wasn't him hinting that the government should be in control of the media? If that's the case, then where is the media freedom? Where's the freedom of speech? What we will read from the papers, see in the news and hear from the radio will all be what the government (PAP) want us to hear, and not what we our self, we the listeners and we, the masses who paid the taxes so that mediacorp or whatsoever newspaper have the funds to continue operation, want to hear, see, read and know. Of course, there are certain things which are not supposed to be and should never have been shown to the public. However, isn't that just another form of biasness? Where's the liberty? For example, please take a look at the following picture:

Seen this picture? Well, I've forgotten where I've taken it from, but I know it's from some weblogs. Like what the picture have said, it's the actually photos of worker's party's rallies. Isn't that picture just fascinating? The amount of people, the amount of supporters, and the fact that most people rather turn up at WP's rallies than PAP's. But did any of such photos, or even videos, appeared in the news or papers? None! This kind of censorship shouldn't exist in a state which always proclaims itself as the hub of almost everything. This reminds me of what my making of modern Singapore instruction have said. He have been to all 3 of the parties' rallies, PAP, WP and SDA, and he have only stayed on for the later two. As for the PAP's rally, well, he said that it's not really that interesting and he was given some "meng-niu" (朦牛), as a sort of bribery, perhaps? (Just like the @!#$ing Singapore Progressive Package .... DOWN RIGHT BRIBERY!) Well, the only thing which I've found funny is that, why aren't he given a yeo's drink instead?

Enough of the "kuku" press freedom thing. Another thing which I would like to bring out is the laws in Singapore. I won't talk about the sky high execution rate nor serious issues such as the Michael Fey incident, cause that's a bit too ethical, and arn't really suitable for discussion. However, I think I will be talking more about "lighter" crimes. Oh and before I start taking my stand, I'd like to share with you all some of my experience of the Singaporean law (Oh, the humanity of it ....). Hmm, maybe i'll list them down.

  • Many times for Vanderlism (in school), one of which got me into a principal case which ended up in cleaning tables after school, and there was another which was mass vanderlism which was pretty fun =D.
  • A few times for assault (in school), and one ended up with caning, but I still think that I should have been charges fighting as it was the victum who landed the first blow... unfair!

  • Once for wearing beggie pants (in school), but got off without punishment because I think the teacher is blind.

  • Once for dying hair (in school), but got off without punishment again because my natural hair colour is dark brown and not black, and the teacher should get sack because of this.

  • Once charged for long hair (in school), but got away because the teacher was in a bad mood but the principal wasn't.

  • Numurous of times for not wearing belt, tie, socks or proper shoes.(in school)

  • Don't know how many times for not tucking in =.=''(in school)

  • Once for sucking a lollipop in the train station. Well, unfair isn't it? I've seen people eating mac in a train station and they didn't get scolded nor charged (the station master said that we will infrom my school that I was eating lollipop in a train station ............. lame =.='')

  • Once for bringing a toy gun into the country. Went to custom's office for like thirty minutes before I managed to squeeze myself out.

  • A lot of times for bringing chewing gums but got off because, well, even the police likes to chew once in a while, right?

Interesting? I can say that I am quite a little punk in school, but I try my best not to cross the line when I am outside since in sch it's the discipline master and outside its the mata (police). Anyway, don't you think that the rules in Singapore is far too tedious, constraining and sort-of inhumane? I mean, prohibiting drugs and fire arms are understandable, but chewing gums? Come on ... it's so ridiculous and unbelievable that there's one description on a world encyclopedia about Singapore being a gum banning country. True enough, the country is kind of cleaner and you don't see patches of black stuff on the ground (which I have been told are dried and spitted chewing gums) like those in Hong Kong, but what's the point? It's just like banning sweets so that the country can be cleaner... no, its not 'like', it IS. Also, some of the laws are kind of unclear, don't you think so? I mean, I understand the reason why they prohibit eating and drinking in the stations and trains (one reason, clean!), I had no idea that it includes sweets and candies till I've got caught for eating lollipops.... mourn for my 40 cents please. Signs saying other rules such as no soccer in void decks (ok, its pretty much understandable though), no spitting and urinating (this signs really make the society look quite uncivilized ... I mean, who in the right mind will pee in public places or in the lift?!) and those extra school rules (such as hyper short hair, some crappy belt and socks and stuffs like that), don't they make you feel intoxicated? Many of them are even unnecessary.

Alright! Last point for this post. Courtesy. I remembered that last time my Social Studies (LKY's propaganda subject) teacher have said that Singaporeans are low in courtesy rating. True enough, when compared to Hong Kong or other major Asian cities, the chance of getting a scornful or even violent reply from a stall tender or sales person is much higher. Sometimes, it has even caused me to be intimidated from asking for guidance in stores and such. Seriously, when you are in Singapore (and provided that you look and sound like a Singaporean), ask yourself how many times did someone from the sales industry gave u a pretty bad impression? I remembered that there was once where a but has just closed the door before I ran and reached the station. Well, naturally the bus driver will open the door again, right? But this good for nothing bus uncle just wave me away and drove off. Frustrating, wasn't it? Of course, to show that I am displeased, I pointed my middle finger at him as he drove off (parental guidance required!). The only occupation which I find that they have a rather nice tone is taxi drivers. Most taxi drivers are chatty and all, and like what my making of modern Singapore instructor have said, they are always willing to share some of their thoughts and perspectives and what they know with you. Quite a weird society, if you ask me. Oh and one more thing, I believe that it's better if the sales person (be it the auntie from the wet market or the cute girl from some branded stall) uses a relatively nastier tone on you, because there's a high possibility that the sales wants to con you if he/she uses a nice tone. Trust me, I had experiences.

Well, this rounds up what I have to say for Singapore, and my six years of experience, even though I didn't really said anything positive (there are). There's a lot more, but time, space and finger energy are limited, and I guess I will end here before you decide not to visit my site again.

TANK

Went to mensa's TANK today. As I was wondering how they've managed to squeeze 20 odd people into that tiny little room which I find it kinda packed with 8 or 9 test takers the other day, well, I've realised once I reached there that they've removed all the tables except for two which they've pushed to the side and bags are placed there, and what remained is the whiteboard and the chairs. So everybody just took their chair and formed a huge circle (which was the outline of the room).... kinda lame, eh?

But looking for speaking chances in the TANK was rather difficult, the queen has said that each person is given 3 minutes, no more, but u can use less. So, its like, one hyper long list of names waiting to speak, and everyone just que. Quite orderly, but the down side is that when some thoughts hit you in the head, you would have forgotten everything when your turn comes. Simply put, the list and waiting time is TOO DARN LONG!

Oh well, that went on only for the first topic. But time's pretty tight. They've sort of like did it in a rush and things like that, at least for the first portion of the TANK. It's about the possibility of unification of language. Well, i guess the topic is too board, so wide and board that I felt as if everyone is talking on a different topic.

However, after the short break and QnA on how to improve on the style of TANKing, the queen allowed 30 seconds of respond time after each speaker. Well, that improved the situation, or maybe its because its the change of topic (to those obsence picture scandals), but I find the later part of the TANK better. The only thing that got stuck in the back of my head was that someone said (or argued) that Singapore has one of the highest ranking government in the world... of course, having suffered under such government for 6 years, I would naturally disagree, but there arn't any time for me to reply so I guess I'll post something here regarding this matter, later.

Ok, kinda sleepy now, but before I go, I guess I'll give a word of advice for anyone who's going to some 3 hours events. BRING YOUR OWN WATER! Oooof... almost died of dehydration ... T.T

New Skin~

Finally, I am sort of satisfied with the current skin on my blog. Aren't really easy to make something BLOW NOTE deathnote-style, eh? The concept of the wallpaper is based on the cover of Deathnote mangas (the first book) and so is the Blog header title. By the way, there are a bunch of BLOW NOTE "how to use it" at the bottom of the page so check it out. It's for humorous effects only though.

Oh and one more thing. Anyone still has my warcraft 3 undead animated mouse pointer/cursor? Would be great if you can send it to me so that I can add it to this site. Thanks!
Edited:
Great, found the mouse cursor. Now its time to change the fonts and the scroll bar ... will do it later =P Work comes first!

Facebook? Friendster? Internet craze!

The following post will be in chinese because, well, I can't let my chinese get worse, right? Need to train a bit, yea?

Few days till mensa TANK~

As a member of mensa, one must not miss the famous TANK, a gathering where mensans will debate, argue, talk crap, and hopefully not fight on current issue. It will be held in north, 7th floor, City Hall, Central this time round, the place where I've taken the intimidating mensa entrance test. The topics this time round will be "語言統一的可能性和方向", which is the possibility and direction of uniting language into one, and "我看見淫照看見我" ... you know, Edison Chen scandal stuff... Well, maybe I'll paste what the advertisment E-mail says here:

TANK

TANK

Venue: North Committee Room, 7th floor, High Block, City Hall, Central
Medium: Cantonese

It is said that in a room with 12 Mensans you will find at least 13 differing
opinions on any given subject. Let's see how splendid will the sparkle be
this time!

Session 1 - 16:30 - 18:00 - "語言統一的可能性和方向"
Session 2 - 18:00 - 19:30 - "我看見淫照看見我"

This is a members-only event. Please sign up on the HKMoof on or before March
13 (Thu)

By the way, this reminds me ... There's some interesting video on david's blog and it's kinda related to this time's TANK.

Anyway, I don't quite agree to what they say on the video. Firstly, that's all just prediction and secondly, what is happening is that the average IQ of mankind is shifting upwards as time goes by. Another thing to note is that the average IQ of east asia is the highest in the world (Korea, Japan, China, Singapore) so I think I don't have to worry about it =P. Oh and don't you want the technology to advance and develope? Or do you prefer to live in the ancient times? Where walking to school takes half a day? Come on man, this world is built with human's wit and intelligence, and that won't destroy it.

Last lab?

One of the most tedious thing which I can never stand regarding electronic engineering is the lab period. 4 darn hours sitting in the lab figuring what on Earth are those bunch of crap doing in front of you. If it's chemistry or DnT (wood & metal work), I'd be down right happy, man ... too bad it isn't...

Well, end of suffering! The so-called last lab lesson was today and its over~~~!!! No more doing pre-labs (we had to use words to make our own lab sheets ... god damn it ...) No more staring at the CRO (some crappy oscilloscope, but it's kinda sophisticated O.o) and not knowing what the yellow or green graph is about. But that doesn't means no more wire connecting, no more looking at diagrams and no more electronic shit. Why? Because the stupid professor and lab-techs have given us each a take-home project to do! yucks! Would be great if it was a cooking lesson...

Well, I am too darn lazy to talk about what the project is so maybe u can see it for yourself:

Some crappy breadboard

The chip which the lab-techs are proud to know about ... geez, it's damn lame man...

A second-hand breadboard where the electronic components have seen better times

The back of the 2nd hand breadboard. If it was hell, then what is this? Mountain of knives?

The only tool given. To connect wires, cut wires and loosen wires ... insanity.

Close up.

Nothing to do with EE, but arn't you sick of looking at those freakish bread-boards? Dug this up somewhere. Quite a cute toy, huh?

Mensaccino+

First time to a hk mensa event. Not bad, pretty good in fact. The hospitality is there, at the very least. But I should have gotten myself a drink, cause my throat went kinda dry, right? I mean, not buying anything is like ... not participative or something... Oh well, I will take that in mind. Ice breaker this time.

Anyway, it's only now that I've realized that German are great makers of boardgames. I mean, that "only" game that I've played there was a real riot. You wont see that kind of tactical + luck games everywhere... serious. Well, maybe so only because I've won? =D

Oh and thought this is my first appearance in a mensa meeting, it wont be last. Definitely.
